A Local Guide to Pennsylvania  Fishing Licenses for Sypeck’s Guests

At JSypeck’s Guide Service, we want to ensure your time on the water is focused on the fish, not the paperwork. If you are joining us at Harveys Lake, Lake Nockamixon, or Blue Marsh Lake, securing the proper Pennsylvania fishing license is essential for a worry-free day. Pennsylvania’s rich waterways offer incredible variety, and staying compliant helps support the conservation of these beautiful resources.

Who Needs a License?

In Pennsylvania, a valid fishing license is required for all individuals aged 16 and older. This requirement applies to both residents and non-residents, even when fishing with a professional guide. While you do not need to display your license on your outer clothing anymore, you must have it available (digital or paper) along with a valid ID.

2026 License Pricing

Pennsylvania offers a range of options, from short-term tourist passes to annual resident licenses. Here are the most common rates for the 2026 season:

License Type PA Resident Fee Non-Resident Fee

Annual (Ages 16–64) $27.97 $60.97

1-Day Tourist *N/A $31.97

3-Day Tourist N/A $31.97

7-Day Tourist N/A $40.97

Senior Annual (Ages 65+) $14.47 $60.97 (Standard)

Senior Lifetime (PA Residents) $86.97 N/A

*Note: 1-Day licenses are not valid during the peak trout season (March 15 – April 30) unless otherwise noted by the PFBC.

Important Permits & Exemptions

  • Trout/Salmon Permit: If our goal for the day includes targeting trout, a Trout Permit is required for an additional fee (approx. $14.97).
  • Youth: Anglers under age 16 do not need a license to fish in Pennsylvania.
  • Military & Veterans: Reduced-fee or free licenses are available for certain active-duty military members (residents stationed outside PA on leave) and disabled veterans (100% disability).
  • Fish-for-Free Days: Pennsylvania typically hosts two days a year where no license is required—perfect for bringing along a friend who wants to try the sport!

Where to Buy Your License

Securing your license is quick and convenient:

  1. Online: The fastest way is through the HuntFishPA website. You can save a digital copy right to your smartphone.
  2. In-Person: Visit any authorized issuing agent, including major sporting goods stores, bait shops, or the County Treasurer’s office.
  3. App: Use the FishBoatPA mobile app to manage your licenses and view local regulations on the go.
